Why ostriches

The most rewarding bird you can raise

They are striking, surprisingly hardy, and remarkably productive. Here is why owners keep coming back for more.

A productive bird

A single hen can lay 40 to 60 eggs in a season. Few animals turn feed into meat, eggs, leather, and feathers as efficiently as an ostrich.

Fast to grow

Chicks gain roughly a foot a month early on and reach market size in under a year. Your flock builds value quickly.

Hardy and low-input

Ostriches are desert-adapted, browse on greens, and thrive on modest acreage. They are tougher and simpler to keep than most expect.

Our bloodlines

We focus on the breeds that make the best-tempered, most productive flocks.

African Black

Struthio camelus domesticus

The standard for ranching: shorter, docile, and prolific layers. Our primary bloodline and the easiest ostrich to keep.

Blue Neck

Struthio camelus australis

Taller and notably hardy, with striking blue-gray skin. A strong choice for hot, dry climates and larger frames.

Red Neck

Struthio camelus massaicus

The largest of the three, with warm reddish skin in season. Best suited to experienced keepers with plenty of space.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is it legal for me to own ostriches?
In most of the United States ostriches are kept as livestock and need no special permit, but a few counties and municipalities have zoning rules for large or exotic birds. Check with your local agricultural extension or zoning office before you reserve. We are happy to point you in the right direction.
How much space and setup do I need?
Day-old and started chicks need a warm, draft-free brooder for the first weeks. Growing birds want a secure, well-drained pen with room to run: plan for at least a third of an acre per pair as they mature, with sturdy fencing about five to six feet high. We send a full setup guide with every reservation.
How are the birds delivered, and what is the guarantee?
Younger chicks ship in climate-controlled transport; older birds are usually best picked up at the ranch or delivered regionally. Every order is covered by our live-arrival guarantee: if a bird does not arrive healthy, we make it right with a replacement or refund.
Are the birds healthy and vaccinated?
Yes. Our breeding flock is managed under a documented health program, chicks are raised on a balanced ostrich ration, and birds are health-checked before they leave. Health records travel with your order.
Do you require a deposit, and is there a minimum order?
A reservation holds your place in an upcoming hatch with a deposit, and the balance is due before delivery. Chicks are sold in pairs (a minimum of two) because ostriches do best with company; juveniles and breeding pairs can be reserved individually.
I have never raised ostriches. Can I still do this?
Absolutely, and many of our buyers start exactly there. Started chicks are the most forgiving way to begin, and our care guides plus support line walk you through brooding, feeding, and housing step by step.
